AI4PEX is a Horizon Europe project leveraging artificial intelligence to better understand and predict environmental extremes across the Earth system. By combining advanced AI methods with Earth observation and environmental data, AI4PEX aims to improve the detection, attribution, and projection of extreme events such as heatwaves, droughts, and ecosystem disruptions.
This synergy was highlighted during the TerraDT webinar "One year on: main achievements in climate digital twins", where AI4PEX contributed to discussions on how AI-driven approaches can complement digital twin technologies. Both projects share a common objective: enhancing the capacity to model complex Earth system processes and translate scientific insights into actionable knowledge.
The collaboration opens opportunities for AI-based analytics to be integrated with digital twin components, particularly in areas such as land–atmosphere interactions and extremes monitoring. By aligning efforts, TerraDT and AI4PEX contribute to a more connected European ecosystem for climate intelligence, supporting the broader goals of the Destination Earth initiative.
